Description
Chilcuague (Root of Gold) is a remarkable medicinal plant native to the mountains of central Mexico. Revered for centuries in traditional Mexican herbalism, it is known for its distinctive tingling sensation and its long history of supporting oral care, digestion, respiratory wellness, and overall vitality.
Its name is believed to come from the Nahuatl language. "Chilcuague" is commonly translated as "Snake Chili" (chile de víbora), while another traditional name, Chilmetal, means "Rope Chili" (chile de mecate). These names reflect the plant's spicy, vibrant character and its deep roots in Indigenous Mexican culture.
Beyond its medicinal uses, Chilcuague has also been appreciated in the regional cuisine of central Mexico. Its unique spicy, tingling flavor is traditionally used to season salsas, beans, nopales, and other local dishes, adding a distinctive taste that awakens the palate.
